Review
This book is an easy read and guides parents to look at what they can actually change: themselves. Instead of giving some sort of formula for getting kids to behave, Brian focuses on helping parents learn to become more like Jesus so the way they parent will model how they want their kids to live. At one point he says kids may not listen well, but they’ll imitate what they see. He also distinguishes between desires for our kids (we can’t MAKE them happen) and goals for ourselves (we DO have control of this). It was helpful to look at what I’m hoping for in parenting and reassess what’s a desire but out of my control and what I can actually do. By focusing on what I can actually change, I’m feeling less discouraged as a parent and more hopeful.
