The whole series is 'killer' and I mean that in the best way. Quarry is back in a big way, and I couldn't be happier. The novel opens in the 80's to set up the second which brings the inimitable hero to present day. The plot is swift, the action is hot and the mystery unfolds at a break-neck speed. I'm no writer (as you can see) but Max Allen Collins is a modern day Hammett with his witty turn of phrase, and a heathy dose of Spillane in the mix. Having collaborated with Spillane, even caring for the remains of his literary output and finishing several books he'd started, from outlines to partial manuscripts, he obviously saw the talent in him as well. Quarry is a great character, you can start on this book, and I'd bet you'll be thrilled to know that there are fourteen more. I read each in order, and am ashamed to admit this is the first review I've done of this series, but you can't go wrong with any of MAC's series. Of special delight are the historical novels in his Nathan Heller series. Max Allen Collins is a crime fiction treasure, and known to reply to the occasional email from fans. I was pleased to be one of them.
