A THOUGHT-PROVOKING PAGE-TURNER • The first book in A.B. Raphaelle’s upcoming time travel series. The unwilling subject of a trans-human experiment in 2050, Aroya's only escape is time travel. Arriving in 2019 San Francisco, he meets Abbie, a nurse who has just witnessed a murder. "A wonderful and fresh read; a highly unique blend of elements—romance, poetry, spirituality, and a small dash of quantum physics! …This isn't an overly steamy novel with hyped up sex scenes every other page. Rather, the romantic scenes are well-placed, and well-paced, and quite moving. Aside from that, throughout the story, there are subtle lessons within that I feel we could all use-—especially during these times! Overall, a fun, page-turning read!" ~ Amazon ReviewerSan Francisco, 2019. Abbie Lite, a nurse at the Public Hospital, witnesses a murder but is terrified to come forward. Now, at the end of her rope, she seeks guidance from a Brazilian shaman. During her shamanic session, she experiences amazing visions that foretell events soon to come. In front of her favorite café, Abbie comes face to face with an unusual man who has silvery skin and the ability to read her thoughts. His name is Aroya—he has just arrived from the year 2050. Little does Abbie know that this unusual man will soon save her life. And thus, their adventures in time travel begin!"This book has a little of everything: a bit of drama, exciting moments, and gentle humor. Add a generous dash of romance and you have an enjoyable read. AB Raphaelle uses descriptions well to create a mental idea of where each character is in the book. Her characters are believable and the odd twist to the story leaves the reader wondering whether any particular character is actually sinister in nature or whether the character supports the endeavors in making the world a better place. The layout of the book helps the reader to follow the story, informing the reader of where they are in the timeline of each character. The concept of time travel itself is one that can be easily played with, as it has been used many times for the basis of a novel. When We Were Warm works with this concept well, leaving the reader pondering the possibility of alternative timelines." ~ Janine Thatcher for Readers’ Favorite Read more

Review

Yes, the plotline is dynamic but there is much to it in terms of lessons for life. I felt the need to put details in my review to express my thoughts while reading this book. This work's muse is based on the author’s personal vision, but soon as I started reading the astounding opening of chapter 1 I realized: this would be an engaging read. The fantastic concept that one can ‘move' forward to correct things and then moves back to save one or many, or change the person’s world, is nicely embedded within the plot, and again, intermingling spirituality and inner desire and fulfillment with advanced technology - absolutely unique and is amplified by linking the use of the terms, destiny, and destination.Initially, I thought that the difference between the years 2019 and 2050 is not much far to assume the described advanced technology, but then it was perfectly understood as it was needed for the plotline. Besides, we live in times where technology advances every day, some of it turns scary and immoral as elegantly illustrated in this story. And indeed the future world is described amazingly through physics and genetics terms we can absorb, and reveal the author’s imagination and knowledge. The plotline dynamically moves fast with multiple twists and the more it moves, it turns more surprising and fascinating. Can one person meet the older version of that person? I found the concept of converging timelines and the interpretation of ‘time’ fascinating.I love the first-time meeting between Abbie and Aroya; naive and lovely like the first-time meeting between any two innocent souls who sense that fate brings them together. So refreshing, making you feel on the ground in this fascinating fantasy. Later, the first-time love scene between the two was like a long poem rather than standard erotic lines. An example: “She studied his face, smiling–then turned, dropping her robe to the floor. It was like the raising of a velvet curtain, presenting him with the grandest show on Earth–two round buttocks, as fair as a full moon–the same as he witnessed during that night at the beach.“There are quite few moments in which we feel the author’s marvelous sense of humor, such as this one: “I think that Archangel’s are closer to God, with a capital ‘G’. I guess the other ‘gods’ have a little ‘g’…because they’re littler.” She giggled. “Well, anyway…thank God, with a big ‘G’ for Archangel Michael…“ I also find the use of the name Elijah for an interesting character amusing and scholarly at the same time.Throughout the plotline, the magical crystal stone mediates the time traveling back and forth. Is there a metaphorical meaning for it? Oh yes, it metaphorically reflects our inner will to flip phases in life!? And the world around us too: for instance, the point about the homeless people in the city - well, that sounds a bit like a wonderful wish by an optimistic storyteller. Such an atmosphere clearly reflected by beautiful poetic lines. Some poems forced me to slow reading, think a bit about them and then continue reading at a regular pace. In particular, the metaphorical similarity between the need of a guide for musical instruments to play in rhythm and the importance of transcendental powers to rhyme humanity, is music to my ear. What a purpose is for an immortal body if it doesn’t have a moral soul? Bringing us to the very beginning where Eve made the choice to eat from the fruit of knowledge.
